Our sub-specialists include orthopedic surgeons who specialize in the following treatments:

• Hand and upper extremity conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ganglion cysts, nerve injuries, and complex trauma.
• Foot and ankle conditions can be treated through minimally invasive arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery. The orthopedic surgeons treating foot and ankle conditions may address complex foot and/or ankle trauma, arthritic conditions, and sports injuries.
• Shoulder surgery is treated through arthroscopic techniques that utilize small incisions and a tiny camera to allow for rotator cuff repairs and shoulder stabilization.
• Complex or traumatic fractures or displaced broken bones can be stabilized with plates, screws, pins, or rods.
• Sports-related strains, sprains, tendonitis, and injuries can be treated with the goal of returning the patient to their athletic pursuits as quickly and safely as possible.
• Total joint replacement allows the patient to get relief from pain that improves function, which allows them to live a more comfortable, active lifestyle. The arthritic or damaged joints are replaced with prostheses, and the natural cartilage is removed.
• Spine surgeons perform a wide range of procedures such as vertebroplasty, spine decompression, and fusion for stenosis and herniated discs.

Should I See an Orthopedic Specialist?

You may think you have to “live with” pain that affects your bones, joints, or other tissues after suffering a sports injury or a slip and fall, or you have increasingly painful joints. The good news? Almost any condition affecting your joints, bones, muscles, ligaments, or tendons can be treated and even resolved. Seek orthopedic treatment if you have joint swelling or stiffness or any difficulties with mobility during everyday activities. These physical challenges may indicate you have a treatable musculoskeletal injury. Seeing an orthopedist is the first step to pain relief. At Butler Health System, we offer conservative, nonsurgical treatments like physical therapy and more aggressive therapies like minimally invasive surgery. When medications and physical therapy are not enough to resolve your pain, it might be time to pursue other therapies, such as surgical intervention. This is especially true for wear-and-tear conditions that cannot be fixed through medication alone. During surgery, you will be under general anesthesia to render you unconscious and unable to detect pain. Once the procedure is over, be prepared for a follow-up treatment regimen that may include physical or occupational therapy prescribed by your orthopedic surgeon. After recovery, your doctor will clear you for any physical activities you did before or want to try.
