Butler Health System will offer the second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine as outlined below.
On 3/29/22, the FDA authorized a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine for certain individuals based on their risks for severe illness. The CDC quickly added recommendations with this authorization.
People who received mRNA vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, or some combination) for primary series are eligible to receive a second booster shot 4 months or longer after their first booster shot if they meet one of these criteria:
This means that immunocompromised individuals should receive a total of five (5) doses of mRNA vaccine – 3 for primary series, followed by two boosters.
People who received J&J vaccine should receive a second booster with an mRNA vaccine 4 months or longer after their first booster. This is recommended for all people who received J&J, regardless of age or immune status. Keep in mind that immunocompromised people who received J&J should get an mRNA vaccine 4 weeks or more after their J&J shot.
