BHS Nurses Honored in Cameos of Caring® Program

Butler Health System is pleased to recognize Lindsay Kimmel and Lisa Johnson as recipients for the 2017 Cameos of Caring Program® Award. Both were nominated by their colleagues for this distinction and will be recognized at the 17^th annual Cameos of Caring Program® and Awards Gala on November 5, 2017 at the David L. Lawrence Convention center in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Cameos of Caring Program® and Awards Gala was created in 1999 to honor exceptional bedside nurses. The goals of the program are to honor outstanding nurses, increase public awareness of the nursing profession and help recruit the next generation of nurses.

Kimmel is a Registered Nurse in the Behavioral Health Department. She graduated from Butler County Community College and has been employed at Butler Health System since 2015.

Kimmel is a preceptor for Behavioral Health, a mentor for the Butler County Community College 105 Mentoring program and acts as a charge nurse on the Behavioral Health Department.

Lindsay also serves as a preceptor for new hires, a mentor for students enrolled in the Butler County Community College nursing program, and an inspiration to her team of colleagues. Her positive attitude and can do approach is contagious. “Lindsay is the entire package of a professional, compassionate and ethical RN. Lindsay is the person I want to be someday.” - Amy Hammonds, Director of Behavioral Health.

Johnston RN, BSN, CM is a Case Management Access Nurse in the Emergency Department at Butler Health System and has been employed Butler Health System since 1986. Johnson graduated from Slippery Rock University and is certified in Case Management.

Lisa’s knowledge, resourcefulness, and collaboration efforts with physicians, payers, community resources, and colleagues support medically appropriate, cost-efficient levels of care resulted in a positive change in the area of re-admissions and Lisa was the recipient of the Case Manager of The Year award in 2013 for “making a positive difference”.

Many families have found the strength to make it through difficult situations, no doubt from Lisa’s actions. “She has hugged the father of a dying child as though it was her own, comforted the children of a dying woman as though it was her own mother, and cared for the staff in the midst of difficult situations as though they were her own siblings. Compassion and caring of this degree is something so rare and exceptional.” - Carissa Emrick, Director of Emergency Services.

Over 750 nurses have been honored since the inception of the program.
