Angiogram Imaging Services

Independence Health System takes pride in offering comprehensive imaging services in Western Pennsylvania. As part of our commitment to providing excellent healthcare, we offer advanced methods of angiography, a diagnostic procedure that uses x-rays to visualize the inside of blood vessels and organs of the body, including the heart, brain, and kidneys.

Understanding Angiography

Angiography is imaging that allows our highly trained specialists to detect blockages or narrowing in the blood vessels that could potentially lead to serious health complications. During the procedure, a local anesthetic is administered to numb the area where the catheter will be inserted.

A small incision is made, usually in the groin or arm, where a thin catheter is then inserted. The catheter is guided to the area of examination, and a contrast dye is injected. X-ray images are taken, providing a detailed view of the blood vessels.

These procedures help effectively detect abnormalities and plan treatment for various health conditions. Angiography services offered at Independence Health System include:

  • Avoid eating or drinking anything for several hours before the procedure. Your provider will let you know how long you should fast beforehand.
