Featuring a variety of toys from building blocks and puzzles to video games, Austin's Play Room is a safe, cheerful, calming place for children to play with adult supervision while families visit patients. An aquarium provides enjoyable entertainment for children of all ages. Toys and games are chosen with all age levels in mind; toys are placed at levels where even the smallest child can enjoy them.
Located in the Tower lobby of Butler Memorial Hospital, the Austin’s Play Room at Butler Memorial Hospital was generously donated as part of the Austin's Play Room Project, an initiative of the Mario Lemieux Foundation to establish playrooms in medical facilities. The initiative was created after the premature birth of Mario and Nathalie Lemieux’s son, Austin.
Recognizing the challenges that families face in terms of child care during family medical issues, Mario and Nathalie Lemieux launched the initiative, which has raised the funds to establish nearly 30 playrooms across the region.
