X- ray – the X-ray machine utilizes electromagnetic radiation to create
an image of the inside of the body to diagnose and injury or illness .Most
commonly known for its use in diagnosing broken bones, X-ray is also used
in identifying concerns related to the lungs and tissues.
Ultrasound –an imaging method that uses sound waves to create pictures of the
inside of the body, most commonly known for use during pregnancy creating
an image of the developing fetus. Using high-frequency sound waves, ultrasounds
can be used to examine a person’s abdominal and pelvic organs, muscles
and tendons, or their heart and blood vessels.
Echocardiogram – a non-invasive ultrasound imaging test that is used to observe
the heart in motion. Sound waves are used to create pictures of the hearts
chambers, valves, walls and the blood vessels (aorta, arteries, veins)
attached to your heart. A probe called a transducer is passed over the
patient’s chest. The probe produces sound waves that bounce back
off your heart and “echo” back to the probe. This common test
allows your doctor to see your heart beating and pumping blood.
Mammography – a mammogram is an x-ray of the breast and can be used as either
a screening test or a diagnostic test to look for breast cancer. A tool
to detect early stages of breast cancer in women who have no symptoms,
they are also be used to detect and diagnose breast disease in women experiencing
symptoms such as a lump, pain, skin dimpling or nipple discharge. BHS

MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field,
radio waves and a computer to produce detailed images of the organs and
structures inside the body. MRI is commonly used to help diagnose a variety
of conditions, from torn ligaments to tumors. They are also useful in
examining the brain and spinal cord as well as monitoring treatment for
a variety of conditions within the chest abdomen and pelvis.
CT – Computed Tomography (CT or CAT) Scans allow doctors to see inside
your body using a combination of X-rays and a computer to create pictures
of your organs, bones, and other tissues. This advanced x-ray technique
creates a more detailed, three-dimensional view of the body. CT is commonly
used if a patient suffered a head injury, in diagnosing a stroke, identifying
tumors or other organ abnormalities. CT scans can be done on any part
of the body.
Nuclear Medicine – a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive
material to identify, diagnose and determine the severity of or treat
a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease,
gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities
within the body. Nuclear medicine is especially valuable in pinpointing
molecular activity, which enables doctors to judge the severity of a condition.
Identifying molecular activity can also show how well a patient is responding
to therapeutic interventions.
Dexa Scan – (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) also known as bone density
test is the most widely used test to measure bone mineral density. This
non invasive test is used to assess if a person is at risk of osteoporosis
or fracture.
Fluoroscopy –an imaging technique that allows a physician to see the internal
structure and function of a patient, so that the real time motion can
be seen during the study. Useful in both diagnosis and therapy it is commonly
used in many types of examinations and procedures such as barium x-rays,
cardiac catheterization, arthrography(visualization of a joint or joints),
lumbar puncture, and placement of intravenous (IV) catheters (hollow tubes
inserted into veins or arteries).
Diagnostic imaging is ordered for patients by their physician. Once the
exam is complete , Imaging studies are interpreted by on site Board Certified
Radiologists and then are sent to your physician.
X-ray exams do not require an appointment. They are completed during normal
business hours.
