Women's Health & Birth Center 
The Women's Health & Birth Center at Clarion Hospital offers inpatient, as well as outpatient, care to women with various health conditions. Often referred to as a maternity unit, the Health & Birth Center also accommodates women recovering from gynecological and/or urological surgery.
 The Birth Center is comprised of four LDR suites. LDRs allow women to labor, deliver and recover without being shuffled from room to room. They are designed to be comfortable and homelike.
The LDRs are often used for outpatient testing as well.
The Nursery is a high-security area. It accommodates as many as 10 babies.
There are 7 patient rooms that make up the Health Center. This is where postpartum mothers stay, and where gynecological patients are treated. At times, female patients recovering from medical conditions or non-gynecological surgery are admitted into the Health Center.
There were 344 births in the Birth Center during 2006.
The Health & Birth Center is proud to have the services of two board-certified lactation consultants. Sherri Patterson, RN, IBCLC, has been an obstetrical nurse at Clarion Hospital since 1996. Jayme Baumcratz, RN, IBCLC, has been an ostetrical nurse at Clarion Hospital since 2001. One of these consultants is available to help and support inpatient breastfeeding mothers Monday through Friday from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m.
The consultants facilitate a weekly support group that welcomes all breastfeeding mothers, regardless of where they delivered. It is held from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. in the "Stork Room," the maternity department's waiting room, located on the second floor. For more details about the support group, please click here.
